Beehiiv review 2026: pricing, test and honest verdict

A factual breakdown of the fast-rising newsletter platform: pricing recorded on October 16, 2026, the real limits of the free plan, monetization at 0% commission, and who Beehiiv is (or is not) the right choice for in 2026.

Beehiiv in 30 seconds

  • Positioning: an all-in-one platform to create, grow and monetize a newsletter: not just an email-sending tool.
  • Prices recorded on 10/16/2026: Free at $0 (up to 2,500 subscribers), Lite at $49/month on annual billing ($59/month on monthly), Pro at $95/month on annual, Enterprise on a quote. Sources: the official beehiiv.com/pricing page and its structured FAQ.
  • Killer monetization argument: 0% commission on paid subscriptions and digital products (versus 10% at Substack). You only pay standard Stripe fees (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction).
  • My analytical verdict: for a creator who wants to turn a newsletter into revenue, Beehiiv is in 2026 the most technically complete option. But I have not tested the platform in real conditions: this article is a documented analysis based on official sources, not a hands-on review. And the Lite plan at $49/month deserves serious thought before you pull out the card.

Many solopreneurs ask me whether Beehiiv is worth a look, when Substack and Kit already own all the mindshare. The short answer: yes if monetization is your goal, not necessarily if you are just starting out with a very small list. Here is the full analysis, numbers included.

What exactly is Beehiiv?

Beehiiv is a newsletter platform launched in 2021 by former members of the Morning Brew team. Its ambition goes beyond the sending tool: it is a complete ecosystem to publish, grow and monetize an email audience.

Concretely, a Beehiiv account gives you access to four building blocks that talk to each other:

  • Newsletter: a dedicated editor, templates, built-in analytics. Email sends are unlimited on every plan, including the free one: the platform states that you are “never penalized for sending more often”.
  • Website: a no-code page builder, included on every plan. Your newsletter therefore gets an indexable public storefront.
  • Growth: signup forms, pop-ups, a native referral program and above all the recommendation network: Beehiiv newsletters recommend each other, a cross-acquisition mechanism Substack popularized and that Beehiiv pushes hard.
  • Monetization: paid subscriptions, digital products (guides, courses), an internal ad marketplace (the Ad Network) and direct sponsorships.

The platform also broadened its scope in 2026: podcasts, a built-in community and digital products are announced as included on every plan, and the official FAQ is explicit: “what changes as you move upmarket are the limits, the support and the advanced features, not the available products”.

Worth noting for technical profiles: Beehiiv offers an API, webhooks (from the Pro plan up) and even an official MCP server to drive your publishing from AI assistants. A detail that matters when you work the way I describe in my AI agents guide: your newsletter can become an automatable building block of your stack, not just a tool you open on Sunday evening.

Beehiiv pricing in 2026 (recorded on October 16)

Here is the official grid as published on beehiiv.com/pricing at the time of my 10/16/2026 record:

PlanAnnual priceMonthly priceMax subscribersKey points
Free$0$02,500Unlimited sends, 1 publication, 1 seat, 30-day analytics, recommendation network
Lite$49/month$59/month100,000Paid subscriptions (0% commission), Ad Network, automations, 2 seats, 12-month analytics
Pro$95/monthnot shown at record time250,000Beehiiv branding removal, unlimited analytics, webhooks, dynamic content, priority 24/7 support, 10 seats
Enterpriseon a quoteon a quotecustomConcierge onboarding, SSO/SAML, dedicated IPs, customer success manager

Three clarifications taken from the official FAQ of the pricing page:

  1. Moving to annual saves “up to 20%”: hence the gap between Lite annual at $49 and the monthly benchmark of $59 confirmed in the page’s structured data.
  2. The trial is free and credit-card-free on Lite and Pro; the Free plan is “free forever”.
  3. The commission is 0% on paid subscription and digital product revenue. Only standard Stripe fees apply (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction).

Compared to the landscape I have covered on this site: Brevo’s free plan caps daily sending volume (300 emails/day) while Beehiiv lets you send without limits but caps subscribers at 2,500. And on the Kit side, the free “Newsletter” plan flat-out bans selling digital products: Beehiiv allows monetization from the first paid tier, Lite. I detail these trade-offs in my Kit (ConvertKit) 2026 review and my Brevo 2026 review.

Watch out for one often glossed-over point: the price jump between Free and Lite is brutal. You go from $0 to $49/month (annual commitment) the moment you want to collect a single paid subscription or enable automations. For a newsletter that is just starting, that threshold is the real topic: not the price of the upper tiers.

Beehiiv’s real strengths

Native monetization at 0% commission

This is the core argument, and it is verifiable: Beehiiv takes nothing from your paid subscriptions or your digital products. The official Beehiiv vs Substack comparison page puts a number on the gap: on $120,000 in annual paid subscription revenue, Substack takes 10% ($12,000) while Beehiiv takes $0. The math is theirs, but Substack’s 10% commission is public and not disputed.

For a creator selling a €29 guide or a €8/month premium offer, this structural difference changes profitability from the first euros. It is the same “early monetization” logic that makes Kit strong for still-small audiences.

A recommendation network that works for you

The recommendation system cross-pollinates audiences: your readers get offered other newsletters at signup, and vice versa. For a niche newsletter, it is an acquisition channel that requires neither ad budget nor SEO. The free plan gives access to it, which is rare.

Growth tools worthy of a real editorial machine

Built-in referral program, A/B testing, pop-ups, landing pages, segmentation: Beehiiv packs growth levers directly into the product. The Ad Network adds a native advertising revenue stream: the pricing page claims an average gain of $39/month on the plans that have access, a marketing number to take for what it is (an average, not a promise).

An open technical foundation

Public API, documented Send API, webhooks and an official MCP server: enough to plug your newsletter into automated workflows. For solopreneurs who want to orchestrate their content production rather than type it by hand, that is a real differentiator versus closed platforms.

The honest limits to know

Because a review without limits is not a review, here is what should temper the enthusiasm:

  • The cost of the first paid tier. $49/month on annual billing (so about $590/year) to unlock paid subscriptions is expensive for a newsletter that would itself charge its readers €5/month. You need roughly 10 to 12 paying subscribers just to cover the Lite ticket, before even talking about margin.
  • No intermediate plan. Between 2,500 and 100,000 subscribers, there is only one step. Competitors bill by subscriber volume in tiers, which smooths the bill during growth. At Beehiiv, it is binary.
  • The free plan remains limited on advanced features. No automations, no A/B testing, analytics capped at 30 days: enough to publish, not to industrialize.
  • Beehiiv branding only disappears on the Pro plan. Neither Free nor Lite lets you remove the platform mention: a detail that matters for a professional brand.
  • A young platform, in constant motion. Features and pricing grids move fast (podcasts and the community are recent additions). What is true in October 2026 may change: I date every number in this article to 10/16/2026 so you can re-verify.
  • Full transparency: I have not tested Beehiiv on my own lists. I therefore have no hands-on feedback on real deliverability, day-to-day support quality or the editor’s ergonomics in real conditions. G2 and Trustpilot being unreachable during my 10/16/2026 check, I would rather say so than copy ratings I could not verify.

Who is Beehiiv for? (and who it is NOT for)

The right profile

  • The creator who wants to monetize fast and keep the margin: digital products and paid subscriptions with no commission, from the Lite plan up.
  • The niche newsletter that wants to grow without ad budget: the recommendation network and native referrals do the acquisition work.
  • The data- and automation-minded solopreneur: API, webhooks, MCP: the platform fits into a stack, it does not replace it.
  • Already-large newsletters: 100,000 subscribers on the Lite plan is more generous than most competing grids at the same price.

The wrong profile

  • The total beginner with a 50-person list: the free plan is enough to learn, but do not invest $49/month before you have proven your sending consistency. Start free, monetize later.
  • Anyone primarily after a full email CRM: complex marketing automations, e-commerce, scoring: Kit or Brevo remain better fits. Beehiiv is a newsletter platform opening up to monetization, not the other way around.
  • Anyone who wants zero brand commitment: without the Pro plan, Beehiiv branding stays visible.

Faced with Substack, the trade-off fits in one sentence: Substack gives you a reader network and radical simplicity but takes 10% of your paid revenue; Beehiiv gives you more tools and 0% commission, but leaves you alone at the wheel of your growth at the start.

FAQ: your questions about Beehiiv in 2026

Is Beehiiv really free?

Yes. The Free plan is “free forever” according to the official pricing page, with no credit card required: up to 2,500 subscribers, unlimited email sends, 1 publication, and access to the recommendation network. The Lite and Pro plans also come with a free trial, no credit card required.

How much does Beehiiv cost in 2026?

Recorded on 10/16/2026: Lite at $49/month on annual billing ($59/month on monthly billing), Pro at $95/month on annual billing, Enterprise on a quote. Annual billing saves up to 20% compared to monthly, according to the official FAQ.

Does Beehiiv take a commission on paid subscriptions?

No. Beehiiv charges 0% commission on paid subscription and digital product revenue. You only pay standard Stripe fees (2.9% + $0.30 per transaction). Substack, by comparison, takes 10% of every paid subscription.

What is the limit of Beehiiv’s free plan?

2,500 unique subscribers. Beyond that, you need to move up to the Lite plan (up to 100,000 subscribers) and then Pro (up to 250,000). Email sends remain unlimited on every plan.

Is Beehiiv suitable for an English-language newsletter?

Technically yes: the interface and the editor work independently of your content’s language, and emails go out to any list. What I cannot confirm without hands-on testing is the real deliverability level with mainstream providers and the localization of the interface (not localized at the time of my checks). Worth validating with the free trial before any commitment.

The bottom line

In 2026, Beehiiv is the most complete platform for anyone who wants to treat their newsletter like a real media property: publish, grow through the recommendation network, monetize without giving up 10% of revenue. Its main weakness is structural: the first paid tier at $49/month and the absence of intermediate tiers make it a demanding tool for small lists still under construction.

My analytical recommendation: start on the free plan to validate your consistency, and only move to Lite the day monetization becomes a concrete project. And before choosing your email platform, ask the right question: is it a media newsletter (Beehiiv) or a full marketing engine (Kit, Brevo)?
